We are fortunate in Lethbridge to have some great natural areas to explore and hike through. I added a High Definition camera to our equipment pool last Fall and headed to the river bottom to do some test shooting. One area in particular that I enjoy going to is the Elizabeth Hall Wetlands. It's a great area full of wildlife and subjects for anyone with a camera. I rarely get too many opportunities to do "personal" work anymore as my days are usually full with client work. After a successful visit in September I decided that I would come back and visit in all four seasons.
Today was the day I had set aside to do my "Winter" shoot. I had waited too long last time that we had snow in the city and it was gone before I had a chance to shoot. So of course the day I selected turned out to be the coldest day in a while at -22. At least the sun was out and the conditions weren't too bad after all and working without gloves was bearable. Camera manufacturers don't make buttons that work with gloves on so this is an occupational hazard.
At other times of the year you'll usually come across Lethbridge residents with the same idea of getting out and enjoying the area. Today it was completely desolate with only the occasional flock of geese flying over to break the silence. There was a little bit of open water on the river that a solitary duck had found but everything else was long gone or enjoying hibernation.
It was an enjoyable break and the chance to shoot some scenes that I don't get to as much anymore. The completed version of "Winter" will be posted when editing is wrapped up shortly.
